A Time And A PlaceIt's all very well making yourself a nice new TV advert, but it is just as important knowing when to show it.
Would you want your car ad to be screened on CBeebies? How about a commercial for Bratz between overs in the cricket? Refreshing summer beer ad in the middle of winter?.. Oh, hang on - someone is doing that aren't they?
Coors, purveyors of bland American rubbish, put together a particularly nauseating advert back in the summer. It showed some sweaty Americans quenching their thirst with some ice-cold bottles of lager in a bar. Meanwhile a radio voiceover informs us that it is "100 degrees outside."
Now, it's a horrible advert in the summer. It is one of those cases where the advertisers simply could not be bothered to make a UK-based advert - we are that unimportant to them. (Mind you anyone who lives in or near Burton-on-Trent knows what contempt they hold us Brits in).
The trouble is though, the one benefit it was promoting (refreshment) is pretty pointless when it is snowing outside. It is an absolute case of wrong place, wrong time.
Adverts that should be on after Christmas are for new sofas, carpets or beds (presumably after they got ruined at Christmas time). I'll put a bet on with you that any commercial break on ITV1 between Christmas and New Year will have a DFS advert.
Cold refreshing Coors? I think I'd rather have a Bovril thanks... Quote this article on your site
