Fair Enough Then Something sinister has been happening in the world of insurance. OK, that’s not really much of a shock is it? Something in particular has caught my attention though – a special new reward that we are offered. Direct Line claim that it is unfair to pay extra if someone has not had a claim before. Well, their “real” person shampooing someone’s hair says so anyway, so it must be true. Happy days, if you do not claim you now get a discount. Erm… isn’t that just like a motoring No Claims Bonus? I imagine that Direct Line will be taking a huge reduction in their profits to fund this. I also imagine that Keira Knightley will be inviting me round for Christmas Dinner. So let’s get this straight. What Direct Line will do is to increase the basic amount that you pay and then offer discounts if you do not make a claim. So, if through no fault of my own, my house gets burgled, they will recoup this claim back in the form of higher fees. Well, that seems fair! Of course, Direct Line are not the only ones doing this. No Claims Bonuses are now common across the home insurance market. I just picked on them because I particularly detest their adverts. And because they were very condescending to me over the phone a few years back… |
