Marketing in Action

As I'm sure you can work out for yourself, marketing is going on all around us. Some of it good, some of it bad - a lot of it downright ugly. Every so often, Simon Brandon will write articles here discussing something newsworthy or being advertised that relates to marketing theory. More often than not, it will just seem like a bit of a rant, but he does try to have method to the madness.

Personalisation is one of the “in” topics in marketing. People are fed up of junk mail and expect anything they receive to be not only relevant to them, but also focused directly upon them.

Ca Va?

One thing that struck me was just how pleasant small-town France and Spain are when compared to Blighty. French towns just seem so… well… French! And blow me down, but their Spanish counterparts seem to be… erm… Spanish. They exude a charming authentic character and exude an easier way of life. Why isn’t it like that here? Part of the blame must lie, I feel, in marketing types.

The Sky's The Limit

I’ve been using the same broadband supplier for a couple of years now and I am happy with them. I chose them after checking out some review sites because I wanted a provider that gave excellent customer service and I haven’t been disappointed.

Clever Copy Can Cause Confusion

A good piece of copywriting tells you what you need to know straight away. Often this is the main feature and benefit of a product or service. However, really clever copywriting is thought provoking – it makes you think not just of the obvious, but also an underlying message. A double entendre in effect.

Safety In Numbers

I’m a fussy type. I like my food to be cooked just so, my beer to be the right temperature and I spend hours adjusting my car seat by minute degrees to get the perfect position. Even then I’m never happy – my pursuit for delight is a miserable existence because nothing ever hits the mark.
