Utter Confidence

Utter Confidence

I guess that you need a whole lot of self-confidence to be a navy fighter pilot. I’ve seen Top Gun a few times, and Maverick, Ice Man and Viper all seem pretty sure of themselves.

It is no surprise then that the Royal Navy are using search-engine optimisation alone to bring in new recruits. Instead of giving out a web address, they are relying on their site being number 1 on the search engines.

Let me explain. Normally, a company advertises and puts a web address on their advert. For example, a gravel voiced man may say that Harrier pilots are the best of the best and that one should check out www.royalnavy.mod.uk/royalnavypilot  to see more.

But no, we are now told to “search for navy pilot”. They are hoping that the relvant site will be number 1.

So does it work? Sort of…

Yes, the Royal Navy are number 1 on organic results, but it’s not the right page. However, they have taken out a sponsored (pay-per-click) listing to make sure that the right poage gets there every time.

Now to me, that’s like going into a dogfight wearing a parachute. Maybe it’s showing a little bit of doubt, but I sure as hell would!
